sometimes when I'm trying to figure something out while storyboarding, I make a gif to help me see how something will play, or to figure out a transition.

SCAD Atlanta inking demo

Today I gave an inking demo to my friend Shawn Crystal's Advance Inking Techniques class, part of the Sequential Art program he's spearheading there.

Great group of students being taught by a great teacher and artist. I was honored to be asked, and so I hope my chaotic work methods and high volume of the word "fuck" didn't keep the students from learning anything.

Here's the pencils and finished inks. Sorry for the LQ. Should have taken my legit camera to shoot a pic. Ah well.

It was weird voting in another state not Missouri this year. I had been looking forward to finally voting in KC proper when I moved out of the burbs and into the heart of Kansas City itself last year. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Some day, KC. Some day.

Sketching - 11.3-4.2012

Some sketching over the weekend.

Watched Prometheus, enjoyed it a lot. I was expecting to hate it, or at least agree with the flaws that people had (quite vehemently) told me existed in it. I didn't find any major faults with it (and am hard pressed to think of any faults at all, as I type this) and having just rewatched Alien and Aliens, I find it to be a great addition to that world and it's mythos.

Rewatching Alien obviously had an effect on my sketching...

I also think it's far superior to Cameron's film, which is great, but a completely different kind of film that happens to have one of the same characters in it.

I think Panic Room is closest in spirit to what Scott did on Alien. I love the fuck out of that movie, too.
